Bondage Gear for Beginners
Being kinky is nothing to be ashamed of. Nowadays, BDSM toys have become almost mainstream. Fifteen years ago, the situation was quite different. I remember buying my first set of leather cuffs in a dark, dingy store at the Red Light District in Amsterdam. The only series available was quite expensive and high-end, so we chose a set that we thought would be versatile. It turns out it wasn’t that practical, but it did allow us to explore our BDSM fantasies for real.
Nowadays, there is an abundance of starter kits for sale. And to add another personal anecdote: roughly ten years ago I ordered a starter kit for hundred Euros through a trading website. And that set was really a bust. The quality was far from good, the mouth gag was made with a rubber ball that I could chew pieces of and the cuffs were funny, but not real sturdy.
Browsing through AliExpress, I came across multiple sets of bondage gear, most of them costing only around ten Euros. With all my experiences in mind, I thought little of it. There was no way these cuffs and rope could be worth the money, or could they?
Packaging and Description
First of all: you get many items for what you pay for the set. The set consists of wrist- and ankle cuffs, a collar, a leash to attach to the collar, a short bit of chain to form a hogtie, a feathery teaser, a whip, a ball gag, nipple clamps and a bit of rope. The set is packaged in a plastic bag. The cuffs and collar are made of PU-leather and are lined with synthetic fur. They are decently finished and don’t feel like they are easy to break. They contain no sharp edges. Unfortunately, the clasp is fastened to the cuff, so that limits the opportunities for use a little.
The whip is a light flogger with PU-leather strands. The handle is also covered in this material. The blindfold is a simple eye-mask made of PU-leather which is covered with a soft synthetic fur on the inside. You attach this to your partner with an elastic band around their head. The ballgag, too, is made of PU-leather. The ball is made of hard plastic and has little air holes.
The leash is a strip of PU-leather with a hoop on end and a clasp at the other end. The bondage rope is about 8 mm. thick and five meters long, and I guess it’s made of cotton. The teaser is something I had to hide well from my cats since it’s precisely the kind of toy they prefer. It’s a small bunch of feathers on a stick, ideal for sensation play. The nipple clamps have little bells attached to them. Overall the set looks real decent.
My Experience
In use, I really liked this set. The cuffs were comfortable, which I hadn’t expected for a set of cuffs in this price range. The fur was soft to your skin, and they withstood quite a lot of pulling. My husband did not like the leash, because the hook to attach it with has a sharp edge which could damage the neck. You wouldn’t find this problem if you were to attach it to a chain between the wrist cuffs, for example.
The whip is fun for beginners. It allows you to experience what it’s like to be hit, but it’s hard to cause real pain with it. I really did not like was the ball gag. The ball was too hard and too large for my mouth. Again, it’s okay if you want to know what it’s like to wear a gag. Should you wish to explore that further, I would advise looking for a silicone model. Even for low prices, there are some excellent varieties available. The eye-mask worked fine. I had a slight sliver of vision available on the underside, but that’s never a problem for me. I have to confess I have never been able to find a perfectly fitting eye-mask, not even in the higher price ranges. We usually use a satin scarf.
The bondage rope is excellent. It’s of fine quality, and the length is perfect for practicing different bindings. The collar, however, was a bust. The strip of leather with the clasp is only attached to the cuff at one point, which made it turn in strange ways in a short time. The pieces of fabric created this weird fan around my neck, which made for a good laugh, but not for a workable collar. The tickler and the nipple clamps were both decent enough.Â
Conclusion
The quality of this BDSM kit – Purple surprised me, in the good sense. The set is versatile and extensive. I think it costs a tenth of what I paid for my first cuffs fifteen years ago. I would have been so happy with this set back then since you can try all different aspects of BDSM play without having to tear off the ropes of a small backpack to try bondage. The cuffs from this set can be used separately, or you can fasten them together. And you can try your first whipping session while gagged and blindfolded, so with no chance to protest. I definitely recommend this BDSM kit to whoever is interested in BDSM and wants to explore what they really enjoy. Find information on the internet, communicate well, set limits, and with these toys experiment to your heart’s content!
