Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
What a story.
It was one of the most depressing stories I have ever read in my life, and it was even more depressing to realise it’s not that far from becoming a reality. Especially now that I found out the book is from 1993 and is more than relevant even today in 2019.
Having to pay for police services. Calling the firefighters is useless because water is too expensive. Etc. Etc.
The story was captivating and I believed almost all of it. Octavia E. Butler built a very well-constructed world. The style and grammar were such that I could focus completely on the story.
Overall it was so dark I had to switch to a lighter romance book now and then, because my husband started complaining my mood was too dark after reading this book. But I finished it. I’m yet undecided whether I’m going to read the two other books in this series. I want to know how it ends, but man, I don’t think I can deal with many more death and abuse.
